April 2000 - Olympic Trials

Andy Beadsworth, Barry Parkin & Richard Sydenham were selected to represent Team GBR at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Top performers around the world in both match racing and Soling sailing this crew are one of many capable of winning a Gold Medal. The competition will be intense as fleet racing reduces the competitors down to 12 for the match racing, and certainly Andy, Barry & Richard have a strong chance of bringing home medals.

March 2000 - Crebbin Olympic Bid

Phil Crebbin, British 470 Helm at the 1976 Canadian Games & selected Soling Helm for the boycotted 1980 Russian Games, has announced he will challenge for the Soling berth at the 2000 Sydney Games. Phil will team up with John Tremlett & Charlie Pitcher.
The Soling Olympic trials will be a match racing event at the Weymouth Olympic Trials, 21-24th April, could be an event worth watching.

January 2000 - Miami Olympic Classes Regatta

The Beadsworth, Sydenham and Parkin team won this match racing only event at Miami.
The event consisted of 2 round robins and the British team had the event won with 2 races to spare.

January 2000 - Team Williams

Team Williams today announced its intention to campaign for the Sydney Olympics in the Soling Class. Sponsorship from the leading City law firm Ashurst Morris Crisp has added to support already received from the RYA.

Ian Williams on the helm and Mark Nicholls as middleman have been joined by two times Olympian Andy Hemmings on the bow. Ian Williams is the youngest ever skipper to break into the top 20 on the World Match Racing Rankings, and should he succeed first in gaining selection, and then in getting to the match racing finals will be a formidable opponent for any skipper.

January 2000 - United Sponsor top Soling team

United Airlines have extended their sponsorship of British yachting by agreeing to support Andy Beadsworth, Richard Sydenham & Barry Parkin. The deal will consist of some financial support together with flights too and from the Olympic venue, this should enable our top Soling crew to further enhance their already strong medal winning potential.

July 1999 - Soling European Championships

Andy Beadsworth & crew came 4th in the Fleet racing, thus ensuring that there will be a British boat at Sydney 2000, they then followed this up with a 6th in the Match Racing.

October 1998 - Pre Pre Olympic Regatta

British sailors Andy Beadsworth, Richard Sydenham and Adrian Stead won the fleet racing at the Pre Pre Olympics, but went down in the quarter finals of the Match Racing to Rod Davies and crew from New Zealand.
Given that the three Brits had not sailed together before this was an excellent performance, and when regular bowman Barry Parkin returns they can only go faster.
