UK Dinghy Racing
Newsletter No 8
______________
This is the eighth issue of the Newsletter and I hope to produce one a month, with possible extra issuse during the summer when there is more sailing activity.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Both the Newsletter and the site are a hobby, I do this in the evenings and weekends, and try to keep an open and neutral perspective on issues.
The aim of the site is to entertain like minded people who have a passion for dinghy racing or sailing. I have tried to keep the site as specific as possible, ie UK not worldwide although the info and chat may be of interest to many. The listings of Sailing Clubs and Class Associations are purely British so there are no hugh lists of useless links to try and find one useful one.
On the question of links I have spent many hours searching for the UK sites but am sure I have missed some, so if you find any relevant ones please send them to me.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In this Issue
-----------------
1.British Olympic Sailing.
2.Bookstore.
3.1999 Melbourne Worlds.
4.The Sailing Info Centre.
5.Newsgroups.

British Olympic Sailing
___________________
If you have not visited the site for a couple of weeks then you will not yet have seen the new additions.
I have introduced a section on the British effort towards Sydney 2000, the next Olympic games.
The pages have been split into class sections and will contain breaking news from each class, together with results from the major events. Hopefully this will build into a record of individual as well as the squad progression.
Again I send out a plea for articles and comment for this section.
If you sail an Olympic class or attend any events then please send in your comments, tips of views and I will publish them on the site.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bookstore
________
Again if you have not visited in the last couple of weeks another new addition is the UK Dinghy Racing Bookstore.
This is run in association with Amazon and I have entered direct links to some of the most popular sailing titles, this should avoid individuals having to complete lengthy searches. If you have any recommended titles that you think should be included, or a brief review of any title then please email me.
The books are all available at discount rates and the price can be seen by clicking on the title, it is not included on my page as it may vary, but is usually around 20%.
All major credit and debit cards are accepted and a secure server is used, remember it is safer to use your credit card on the internet than in a restaurant!!
With Christmas approaching it is also possible to have the book giftwrapped as a present.
Sorry for the commercial, I do earn a small payment for each title ordered, but this will go part way to paying for the online charges of running this site.

1999 Melbourne Worlds
___________________
At the beginning of next year one of the largest sailing events of all time will take place when 14 classes sail their world championships in Melbourne.
This promises to be a spectacular event with many of the major worldwide and Olympic classes representated, I just wonder what the non sailing events will be like?
The event has a web site 99worlds.org lets just hope for those of us not attending that results will be easily and regularly available.
If you are going let me know how you got on and what the organisation was like.

The Sailing Info Centre
___________________
Again from down under this is a great site for all sailors, one of the few on the web with real content.
The auther James Graham has obiously spent a great deal of time on creating the content and it is well worth a look

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Newsgroups
__________
Finally just a brief mention of Newsgroups.
I know of two that British Dinghy Racers post to regularly.
rec.boats.racing
uk.rec.sailing
If you are not into newsgroups yet then try these two out, and if you know of other interesting groups for dinghy sailors them why not let us know and increase your subscribers, the more users the better a newsgroup is.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many thanks for taking the time to read this newsletter and visiting my site, please help to keep it up to date and send in articles and links for me to add.
