UK Dinghy Racing
Newsletter No 7
______________

This is the seventh issue of the Newsletter and I hope to produce one a month, with possible extra issuse during the summer when there is more sailing activity.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Both the Newsletter and the site are non commercial, I do this as a hobby in the evenings and weekends.

The aim of the site is to entertain like minded people who have a passion for dinghy racing or sailing. I have tried to keep the site as specific as possible, ie UK not worldwide although the info and chat may be of interest to many. The listings of Sailing Clubs and Class Associations are purely British so there are no hugh lists of useless links to try and find one useful one.

On the question of links I have spent many hours searching for the UK sites but am sure I have missed some, so if you find any relevant ones please send them to me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this Issue

-----------------

1. Fantasy Sailing Championships
2. Olympic Sailing
3. Endeavour Trophy Results
4. Site Review
5. Apology

Fantasy Sailing Championships

__________________________

The final results of this years Fantasy Sailing Championships have been available on the site for a few week now. Please visit to find out how you did and who won for 1998.

http://www.dingyrac.force9.co.uk/fant/fantents.htm

Sadly Yachts and Yachting failed to publish some of the results of qualifying events and as per the rules these events did then not count, so a few will be disappointed!!

We will be interested to hear your thoughts on the competition, should we run it again? and how would you change the rules? please email me.

Olympic Sailing
_____________

It is my intention to create a new area on the site soon, that will focus on the Olympic classes and the build up to Sydney 2000, as usual I will concentrate on the British contenders.

If any of you are sailing Olympic classes I would be keen to publish your thoughts and experiences together with the results as they happen in your class, perhaps you would like to become a contact for your class? any contributions will be eagerly awaited.

Endeavour Trophy Results.

______________________

Just the top few, but for those interested the Dinghy Champion of Champions event took place at Burnham-on-Crouch recently in RS400s, there were 28 entries and the winners.......

1st. Richard Estaugh and Simon Potts...........GP14 Class
2nd. Jim Hunt and Tony Freer.......................Solo
3rd. Geoff Carveth and Craig Davies..............RS400

It was a close event with the first two only seperated by a tie break of the number of race wins. Congratulations to all who qualified and to Richard Estaugh on his third win in this event.

Site Review
__________

If you have visited the UK Dinghy Racing site recently you will have seen little change on the surface but many additions to the growing list of UK links.

There are now links to over 120 Club sites and 37 Class Associations.

There are also 100s of adverts in the Free Ads section covering boats and equipment. Please keep these coming in but could you also advise me when you would like the ads removing as the file is growing quite fast.

Just in case you question the value of these ads I can confirm that a number of people have advised me that they have sold their boat through the site and received a significant number of enquiries in the process.

The total number of visits to the site has now topped 10,000 and has been gradually growing during the summer months. The lifeblood however lies in links from other sailing sites and I would ask anybody who has a sailing site to add my link and I will of course do the same for you.

As ever I am sending out a plea for any articles you would like to contribute to the site, letters of comment, views on your class or others, or experiences on the water.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apology
_______

Finally an apology.
It has been some time since the last issue of this newsletter and much has happened on the water since then. I do not intend to leave it so long before the next issue, as with a bit of luck work pressures will ease soon.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many thanks for taking the time to read this newsletter and visiting site, please help to keep it up to date and send in articles and links for us to add.
