UK Dinghy Racing
Newsletter No 14
______________

I have put this newsletter out a bit earlier than usual as there is a lot happening at the moment, particularly with 2 world championships on at present.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Please note new URL www.ukdinghyracing.com

If you are still using the old URL, or viewing any pages with dingyrac.force9.co.uk in the title bar then you should now be directed to the new site.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The aim of the site is to entertain like minded people who have a passion for dinghy racing or sailing. I have tried to keep the site as specific as possible, ie UK not worldwide although the info and chat will be of interest to many. The listings of Sailing Clubs and Class Associations are purely British so there are no huge lists of useless links to try and find one useful one.

On the question of links I have spent many hours searching for the UK sites but am sure I have missed some, so if you find any relevant ones please send them to me.

If you know somebody that would like this newsletter why not forward a copy onto them with a brief message, and they can then visit to subscribe.

In this Issue
__________

1. Tornado Worlds
2. Europe Worlds
3. Hydrofoils on dinghies??
4. Exclusive Offers
5. Americas Cup cartoons

------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Tornado Worlds

The Tornado Worlds are taking place at present, see the daily results at

www.sailing.org/tornado/

The good news is that Hugh Styles & Adam May sailing British Aerospace are currently leading the championship. A superb performance from a newish team, provisional results from day 3 suggest they may have dropped to 2nd, but could we be looking at a real medal hope in this class too.

In it's first entry into the Olympic scene the Tornado Gold went to Reg White, but we have not had real medal hopes since, so could this be the year?

------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Europe Worlds

It is obviously a busy time at present in world dinghy racing as the Europe World are taking place in Brazil.

www.yachtbahia.com.br/dez99/index.html

For the latest results, Shirley Robertson a favourite in the class for a medal at Sydney has had a mixed start with a black flag on day 2.

------------------------------------------------------------

3. Hydrofoils on Dinghies

Well I guess we can expect the Int moths to come up with off the wall ideas so have a look at the site

www.freeyellow.com/members7/imca-wa/

Foils on one boat, and it won 2 races, a windsurfer rig on another, worth a look, they reckon that the foils lifted the boat out of the water in 10knts of wind and it was as fast as a 49er!!

However if you let either of the foils stall or lift from the water then you can go home.
Read about it, in a few years time several classes may be using them and you can say you read about it first in UK Dinghy Racing.
Thanks to Jim Champs post in the Cherub mailing list for this.

4. Exclusive Offer to UK Dinghy Racing

This is a superb garment, available in all sizes and a choice of colours, it even comes with no delivery charge in the UK and just a small charge for European or worldwide delivery.

5. Americas Cup Cartoons

Well as Prada and America One progress to the finals of the challenger series the following link is suggested by Jonathan

homepages.ihug.co.nz/chinook/americascup.htm

Some of these are quite funny and are worth a look.

That's it for now, please visit the Forums and Auction site and don't forget the exclusive MAXmarine fleece offer.
